Couple celebrates 60th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth LeGrand Crook

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth LeGrand Crook, of Greer, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall.

The event was hosted by the couple’s three children.

Vintage wedding photos were displayed in the foyer and fresh flowers adorned white linen tablecloths for the celebration. A great-grandchild presented artwork on an easel.

Judy Greer Hensley, sister of the bride, and her husband Lloyd traveled to the celebration from their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Steve Greer, brother of the bride who served as young usher in the wedding, and his wife Susan also attended the celebration, traveling from Athens, Georgia. The bride’s brother, the late John David Greer, was also an usher in the wedding. His widow Betty Greer attended the luncheon.

Guests enjoyed white anniversary cake decorated with the original bride and groom topper from the couple’s wedding. Valentine, birthday and anniversary cards exchanged between the couple for the last 60 years were shared among the group. The event culminated with hymns sung around the piano.

Mr. and Mrs. Crook were married by the groom’s father, Rev. Cullen B. Crook, who was pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, on Aug. 17, 1957.

Mr. Crook is the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Cullen B. Crook. He retired from John D. Hollingsworth on Wheels as designer of textile machinery.

Mrs. Crook, the former Corrie Elsie Greer, is the daughter of the late Ruth and John H. Greer.

They are the parents of Kimberly Crook Lee (Rick), of Rock Hill; Jan Crook Brown (Jerry), of Rock Hill; and Brian Crook (Tama Rollins Crook), of Greer. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The couple are lifelong residents of the Pleasant Grove community in Greer and active members in leadership positions at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Crook also celebrated her 80th birthday on Aug. 9. All grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in attendance except grandsons, Austin and Richard Lee, who are both officers in the military. They called with best wishes during the celebration.

Mr. Ian Michael Delahunty and Miss Melissa Rose Basel

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Basel, of Galloway, Ohio, and Dr. and Mrs. Nigel Delahunty, of Greer, announce the engagement of their children, Melissa Rose Basel and Ian Michael Delahunty, both of Athens, Georgia.

Miss Basel is a 2011 graduate of Westland High School and 2015 graduate of Denison University with a BA degree in English and French. She will complete her Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Georgia in May, 2018. She is currently employed as an ESOL teacher at Pinckneyville Middle School.

Mr. Delahunty is a 2012 graduate of Riverside High School and 2016 graduate of Denison University with a BS degree in Biochemistry. He will complete his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Georgia in 2021. He is employed as a research and laboratory assistant at the University of Georgia Department of Chemistry.

They will be married July 14, 2018, in Swasey Chapel on the campus of Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

Mrs. Miranda Mims Sawyer and Mr. Derrick Zane Logan

Miranda Mims Sawyer, of Inman, and Derrick Zane Logan, of Inman, were united in marriage by Armon Means, at View Point at Buckhorn Creek in Greenville, SC on October 8, 2017.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Cheryl Mims Seneker, of Greer, and Mr. Stephen Thomas Sawyer, of Taylors. She is the granddaughter of the late Ruth Weese Mims and Herman Leroy Mims and the late Dalna Whitaker Sawyer and Audley Lee Sawyer. A graduate of Converse College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, the bride is the Art Coordinator for Spartanburg County Public Libraries.

The groom is the son of Ms. Joyce Costancia, of Easley, and the late Wilmer Lee Logan. He is the grandson of the late Adeline Brown Logan and A.C. Logan. A graduate of Clemson University with a Master of Fine Arts degree, the groom is Associate Professor of Photography at Greenville Technical College.

The rehearsal dinner was held at the home of the bride’s mother and step-father, Mr. David Seneker, on October 5, 2017.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a dinner, catered by The Green Light Cafe in Asheville, NC, and a dance reception. A vegan cake buffet from Short Street Cakes, also in Asheville, NC, was served, along with a fudge round, peanut butter, and ganache groom’s cake, specially made by the bride for her groom.

The bride wore a custom made gown by Julianna Blackmon, designed after her great aunt Sue Weese Coker’s bridal gown worn in 1962. Beautiful light peach galloon lace overlaid an ivory satin gown which fell to tea length. A headpiece made from the lace of the creation completed the ensemble.

Sadie Mims Ferguson, niece of the bride, wore a hair piece of the same lace, which also enhanced her flower pouch, made by the bride, which was filled with rose petals. She was joined by her brother, Calvin Steven Ferguson, nephew of the bride, who also served as a flower attendant.

The bride’s honor attendants included her sister, Courtney Sawyer Ferguson, and her brother, Nathan Thomas Sawyer. Shanna Wood, Michelle Hood, and Katy Butler served as bridesmaids.

Attending the groom as his best man was his brother-in –law, Joel Landers. He was joined by Dusty Landers and Dylan Landers, nephews of the groom, who served as groomsmen.

Selected wedding and reception music was rendered by Ms. Hillary Fleming and Mr. Zach Parks, as vocalists.

Following a two week honeymoon in Europe, the newlyweds are at home in Inman, SC.

Sumter and Florence West, of Marion, North Carolina, celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on May 22 with a gathering at their home, hosted by their three sons.

The couple was wed in Greer on May 22, 1943.

They are the parents of Daniel West, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Nick West, of Oak Hill, Virginia; and Tony West, of Marion, North Carolina.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Martin

Elleson Stahlsmith, of Greenville, daughter of Bob and Patti Stahlsmith, of Greenville, and Andrew Martin, of Greenville, son of Ted and Naomi Martin, of Greenville, were married on April 21, 2018. The 5 p.m. ceremony, officiated by the Rev. Matt Williams and Mr. Neel Skelton at Grace Church Downtown, was followed by a dinner and dance reception held at The Greenville ONE Building, on Main Street in Greenville.

The parents of the groom greeted their guests during a rehearsal dinner at the Lazy Goat on Friday evening.

The bride is the granddaughter of Buddy and Doris Nelson, of Greenville . A 2014 graduate of Powdersville High School, she earned a BA degree in Communication from Clemson University in December 2017.

Mr. Martin is the grandson of Jean Martin, of Belton. A 2013 graduate of Eastside High School, he earned a BS degree in Business Management in May 2017 from Clemson University.

Caroline Stahlsmith attended her sister as maid of honor. Matti Williams Craig, cousin of the bride, served as matron of honor. They were joined by Abby Martin Price, Anna Young, Katie Quinn, Tiffany Hwang, Jordyn Schirripa, Ana Kiriakides and Anna Gehle, as bridesmaids. Ruthie Teague, daughter of Daniel and Brooke Teague, stood as flower girl.

Mr. Martin was his son’s best man. Groomsmen included Thomas Price, Trey Stahlsmith, Rick Bunge, Brent Sanders, Geoffrey Starling, Landon Ragin, Capp Hyneman, Trever Pope, Jack Roylston, Josh Ferguson and Luke Bauer.

The newlyweds are residing in Taylors after a wedding trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Mrs. Seth Thomas Crain

Alana Brooke Genobles, of Greer, became the bride of Seth Thomas Crain, of Greer, during a 5:30 p.m. ceremony conducted by Travis Henson on July 7, 2018 at Washington Baptist Church.

Indigo Hall in Spartanburg was the setting for the reception. White hydrangeas with white roses, white dendrobium and white delphinium decorated the venue where guests were served an Oakland Raiders groom’s cake.

A rehearsal dinner, hosted by Sonja Lipscomb, was held at Praise Cathedral in Greer, on Friday evening.

The former Miss Genobles is the daughter of Regie and Pam Genobles, of Greer, and granddaughter of Norma Hinton Lamm, of Lyman, and Homer Genobles, of Greer. She is employed by Palmetto Air and Water Balance, Inc.

The groom, son of Tommy Crain, of Greer, and grandson of Shirley Freeman, of North Carolina, is employed at Christ Church Episcopal School.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in an A-lined, hand embroidered gown by Eve of Milady and designed by Amalia Carrara. A deep illusion V-neckline featured beaded straps which flowed into a low back V-design. The cathedral-length train added a dramatic final touch. To complete the ensemble, she carried a bouquet of Vendela roses wrapped in white ribbon.

Alexis Hinton Furman, as matron of honor, stood with Maranda Morgan, Danielle Sumner, Abby Sentell, Chelsea Genobles and Hannah Karr, as bridesmaids.

They carried complementing bouquets of white hydrangeas with Vendela roses.

Payton Brown, as miniature bride, and Paizley Brown, as flower girl, joined the attendants.

Justin Moore, as best man, stood with Tommy Crain, Colby Thomas, T.J. Goldsmith, Blake Genobles and Justin Brown, as groomsmen. Easton Moore was ring bearer.

Asheton Hinton, Kyle Rowland, Kevin Rowland and Quann White ushered.

Wedding music was rendered by Dallas and Danielle Burnett.

Couple celebrates 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Wince Williams, Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Wince Williams, Jr., of Greer, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 27.

The couple was married by the Rev. F.S. Jones at his home in Greenville on July 27, 1968.

They are the parents of four children: Vincent Gerald Williams, Victoria Ann Williams Johnson, Martin Luther Williams, and David Bernard Williams. They have five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many in-laws.

The couple was treated to a getaway by their children which ended with a “Surprise Dinner” on Sunday, July 29, that included family and friends.

Mr. Williams is employed as a bus driver for Greenville County Schools. Mrs. Williams, the former Betty Ann Webb, is a homemaker.

They are members of Maple Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Greer, where Mr. Williams is chairman of the Deacon Board.

Celebrates 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Williams

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Williams, of Greenville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a Vow Renewal Ceremony at Greer City Event Center on April 20, 2019.

The couple were wed on April 22, 1969.

They are the parents of three children: Latondra Williams, of Greensboro, North Carolina; Tamatha Gaines, of Texas; and Lawrence R. Williams, of Simpsonville. They have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Both retired, the couple are members of Maple Creek Baptist Church in Greer.

Mrs. Williams is the former Ruby M. Dodd, of Greer.

Mrs. Allen Blake Genobles

Rebekka Lane Sheppard, of Blacksburg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Lane Sheppard, of Blacksburg, married Allen Blake Genobles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Regie Allen Genobles, during a May 11, 2019 ceremony at The Barn at Poplar Springs, in Moore. Rev. C. Vernon Craig officiated.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in an A-line ball gown embellished with light beading, cinched by a crystal belt. Complementing her ensemble, she wore a veil edged in crystals and carried soft pink roses amid white hydrangeas, which also decorated the venue.

The bridal attendants included Maura Sheppard, as her maid of honor and Brooke Crain, Lauren Harrison, Linda Benitez, and LeeAnn Maynor, as bridesmaids. Their bouquets of soft pink roses and white hydrangeas brought contrasting highlights to their floor-length gowns of black.

The groom’s attendants were his father as his best man, and Seth Crain, Justin Brown, Asheton Hinton and Daniel Harrison, as groomsmen.

A reception, also held at The Barn, offered guests a cake enhanced by piped roses along the bottom tier. The top tier featured a smooth design of white icing edged with pink ribbon.

The parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at River Falls Plantation Clubhouse following the wedding rehearsal on May 10.

The former Miss Sheppard is the granddaughter of Ms. Ina K. Willis, of Blacksburg. She is a graduate of Blacksburg High School.

The groom is the grandson of Ms. Norma Hinton Lamm, of Lyman, and Mr. Homer H. Genobles, of Greer. He is a graduate of Blue Ridge High School.

Wedding music included “I Get To Love You” by Ruelle as the processional, and “For Once In My Life” by David Craig as the recessional.

The wedding party entered the church to “What A Wonderful Life.”

“When I Say I Do” by Matthew West was included in the Unity Ceremony.

The couple is residing in Greer.

Mr. and Mrs. Kevin S. Light, of Hartsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Barnett, Jr., of Greer, announce the engagement of their children, Emily Anne Light and Dr. Hayes Austin Barnett, both of Charleston.

Miss Light was homeschooled and graduated from Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology in 2013. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the College of Charleston, Medical University of South Carolina in 2017. She is a Registered Nurse (RN) at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Barnett is a 2009 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School. He graduated with honors from Clemson University in 2013, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. He is employed by ATI Physical Therapy.

A wedding is planned for later this year.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wilson, of Greer, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 2, with their family at home. The couple were married Jan. 28, 1960.

The couple has two children, four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wilson is the retired owner of Wilson Security.

Mrs. Wilson, the former Hazel Toole, of Greer, is a homemaker.

They are members of Calvary Baptist Church in Greer.

Bussey is a 1996 graduate of Greer High and 2013 graduate of Virginia College.

Capell is a 1977 graduate of CA Johnson High and Columbia College.

He is employed at Capell Mechanic as an auto mechanic.

The couple plan to be married on August 21, 2020, at Greer City Hall.

Beatrice Parks-Suber celebrates one century

Beatrice Parks-Suber

Beatrice Parks-Suber turned 100-years-old on May 3, 2020.

She was born May 3, 1920 in Spartanburg County.

Beatrice  has been married twice and is now a widow. She bore 11 children, of which eight are deceased.  Three children are still living.

Beatrice goes by the nickname Mrs. Bee. She is called that because she is the queen bee of the family.

Beatrice is a  very happy woman and loves  talking about her life and accomplishments. She seemed to beam when talking about her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She believes her faith and good health have blessed her to still be here. Beatrice has been blessed to see five generations of her family. May God bless her to see many more!

The family would like to thank the Greer Fire and Police department for coming out wishing her a beautiful birthday.

Miss Carr is a 2015 graduate of Dakar Academy in Dakar, Senegal. She earned a BSN degree from Liberty University in 2019, and is employed at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Mr. Thomas is a 2015 graduate of Southside Christian and the Fine Arts Center. He is studying music and worship at Liberty University. He is employed by Kroger.

A wedding is planned for June 21, 2020, at Glencliff Manor in Rustburg, Virginia.

Margaret Belue Lunny

Rounding her 100th year of life, Margaret Belue Lunny will turn 100 years old on July 10, 2020. Margaret was born on July 10, 1920, in Greer to Walter and Leona Belue. She and her late husband, James ‘Dood’ Lunny, had three children, Dawn (Jerry Suggs), Linda (Roy Owens), and James (Louanne); four grandchildren, Kimberly Suggs Staton (Buddy), Ellen Owens, Rebecca Lunny-Knisely (Nate) and Hannah Lunny; and two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Jacob Staton.

Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Carter

Alyson Craig, of Travelers Rest, and Hunter Carter, of Fountain Inn, were united in holy matrimony by Pastor Travis Agnew during a 5 p.m. ceremony held on September 26, 2020, at Clearview Baptist Church in Travelers Rest.

Pastor Travis Agnew officiated in the church adorned with shades of blush, cream and burgundy.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Jonathan and Beth Craig, of Travelers Rest, and granddaughter of Luther and Ruth McCraw, and Roy and Gail Craig, all of Greer. A 2014 graduate of Blue Ridge High School, she received a Bachelors degree from Presbyterian College in 2018 where she majored in Biology and had a double minor in Chemistry and English. She earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina in 2020 and is employed as an Analytical Chemist.

The groom is the son of Doug and DeLana Carter, of Hilton Head, and grandson of the late DeLano and Berneal Robbins and the late Robert and Marilyn Carter. He is a 2013 graduate of Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia, and a 2017 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston where he earned a Bachelors degree in Exercise and Sports Science. He is employed in customer service.

The bride wore a Lilian West floor length Venetian lace dress with a fitted waist, open back, and beaded lace bodice. The ensemble was completed by a Cathedral length veil with Venetian lace edging.

She carried a spray filled with white hydrangeas, burgundy dahlias, white, ivory, blush and light pink roses with trails of silver dollar eucalyptus. The bouquet was wrapped with the bride’s baptismal handkerchief and a beautiful blue brooch.

Attending the bride were Kelsey Craig, of Travelers Rest, as maid of honor, and Lauren McCraw, of Greer, Sarah Carter, of Columbia, Corina Lupse, of Greenville, as bridesmaids. Zowie McCraw, of Greer, served as junior bridesmaid.

The bridesmaids were attired in a variety of complementing styles in a rich burgundy color and carried bouquets styled after the bridal bouquet.

Alex Cole, of Newberry, served as best man, along with AJ Kniffin, of Leesville, Louisiana, Blake Beckham, of Snellville, Georgia, Andrew Christensen, of Palm Bay, Florida, and Ren Densmore, of Raleigh, North Carolina, as groomsmen.

The couple was celebrated at a reception with dinner and dancing at Green Valley Country Club. Flowers coordinating with the bridal bouquet adorned the tables. Candles and votives decorated the ceremony space and spilled out onto the outside dance floor.

The bride’s cake was a small vanilla cutting cake with buttercream icing adorned with blush and ivory roses. The groom’s cake featured chocolate ganache and “buck eyes” to honor the parents’ Alma Mater. Guests were served cupcakes in a variety of flavors.

A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the parents of the groom, was held at The Peddler Steakhouse in Greenville, on September 25, 2020.

The couple is at home in Fountain Inn after a wedding trip to The Cloisters at Sea Island, Georgia.
